Optical Belt Scales VKO

Optical Belt Scales VKO are designed for measuring weight (volume) of loose materials transferred by belt conveyers. Also can be used to determine the number and the grade of goods transported on conveyors.

Optical Belt Scales VKO are a highly effective measurement tool for working on mobile mining equipment, as well as on belt conveyors, where there is no possibility of using conventional conveyor scales.

 

 

The main advantages of VKO in comparison with other conveyor scales:

  • the absence of mechanical contact with the conveyor moving parts;
  • assembling doesn’t demand of interference to the conveyor structure;
  • ability to measure on incline parts;
  • it’s enough even limited space for scales mounting at working place;
  • the installation at the conveyors with the belt width from 400 till 2000 mm;
  • ability to control conveyor belt overtail;
  • monitoring the presence of large-sized material on the belt;
  • data transfer via Modbus, Ethernet or Profibus (on the request by Customers);
  • photofixation of the event (belt overtail, oversided material and so on).
VKO CONSIST OF:
1. CROSS SECTION AREA MEASURING DEVICE (UIPS) for measuring the cross-sectional area of bulk material conveyed by a conveyor; and
2. PROCESSING AND VISUALIZATION UNIT (BOV) for data processing received from UIPS, from the conveyor speed sensor or conveyor speed data from the existing automation system and calculation of the volume of the transported material. Based on the entered bulk density, it is possible to calculate the current weight productivity of the conveyor at the measuring point.
 

CROSS SECTION AREA MEASURING DEVICE (UIPS)

Cross Section Area Measuring Device (UIPS) is designed to measure the cross-sectional area of the bulk material transported by a conveyor, or for other similar purposes. The device can work independently or as a part of the Optical Belt Scales as the main assembly.

The area of material is determined between a fixed line of the lower boundary and a contour formed by a laser beam on the surface of material, taking into account the subsidence (deflection) of the lower boundary under the influence of the weight of material.

Cross Section Area Measuring Device (UIPS) consists of the following components and systems: a beam, a video processing unit, a laser source, a power supply, and two brackets for installation of the entire device.

Ways of installation of UIPS:

 

PROCESSING AND VISUALIZATION UNIT (BOV)

Processing and Visualization Unit (BOV) receives data from UIPS, data from conveyor belt speed sensor or conveyor speed data from existing automation system and calculates the volume of material being transported.

Current weight productivity of conveyor at the measuring point can be calculated based on the entered bulk density. The result can be given in the form of a current signal 4-20 mA or in digital form according to the exchange protocol accepted by a customer.

In case a customer has a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system at its facility, calculation of volume and current weight productivity can be realized on the existing automated process control system. In this case, there is no need for a Processing and Visualization Unit.
